Meter Modifications For The Pentax Spotmatic

The Spotmatic camera series used a mercury cell to provide power for it's meter circuit. These are no longer available, and using modern batteries leads to metering inaccuracies.

The pages here describe why it is a problem, and provide solutions to the problem.

Dismantle a Pentax Super Takumar 50mm f/1.4 lens This page shows you how to dismantle a Pentax Super Takumar lens. It also shows how to deal with stuck diaphragms, and other problems.
Calibrate a K1000 How to calibrate a Pentax K1000 cameras metering circuit.
ME Super Disassembly and Maintenance

Another incredibly successful Pentax. There are still a lot of these around. However, most will need a complete overhaul by now in order to replace seals, lubricate shutters etc.

Also it shows you the major cause of breakdown for these and most of the cameras in the ME series, and how to fix it without wrecking the camera.

Service a Pentax MX

A very well respected Pentax.

These are very robust and reliable. This particular one had been bouncing around in the back of a Landrover in South Africa before I bought it for the price of the lens.

It was jammed solid, and covered with red dust, and as you can probably see by the heavy brassing, been used a lot After doing this camera repair, it ran perfectly without the need for any adjustment whatever!

The Pentax ME shutter.

This vertical run metal bladed electronic shutter was used in the entire ME series of cameras, and perhaps a few later ones. (ME, MV, MV1, ME Super, and ME-F)

Here you will find an explanation of the operation of this shutter, and how to maintain and test it.

EOS Shutter cleaning.

Not a Pentax you notice. While Pentax is my preferred engine, it cannot be denied that Canon make some very nice cameras.

A problem with the EOS cameras is that they develop a sticky deposit on the shutter blades which will eventually cause problems. This is due to a small rubber buffer in the shutter rotting with age.

To perform this camera repair it has to be dismantled to reach the shutter and the offending part removed, otherwise cleaning the shutter will be an almost perpetual task.

This shows you how to do this on an EOS 750 camera, which internally is one of the more complicated EOS's.

EOS 600 disassembly

How to get at the shutter on an EOS 600 camera.

(I have been asked about this by my local camera store. Aparrently this is a common camera repair, and they are always being asked about getting the shutters fixed.)

Dealing With Fungus

The dread scourge of fungus!

Actually fungal infection is not a death sentence for lenses. In the majority of cases it can be completely cleaned away. Nor is it so terribly contagious as many people seem to think.

Here I relate some fact about fungi in general, what to do about fungal infestations, how to prevent them, and some camera repair suggestions concerned with killing off any fungi you may have around.
